Daniela's Story

Daniela was diagnosed with mental retardation and with an initial degree of behavioural disorder when she was 5 years old. She has grown into becoming more and more independent. Daniela is traveling alone to and back from Copiii de Cristal Centre, feels comfortable taking public transportation and being home alone while her parents are working.

She enjoys a sewing a lot, ironing and cleaning. She is rather new as she joined the centre only in 2019 and the main focus since then was on her behaviour. Daniela sometimes has high demands which people around her find difficult to fulfil. She only does certain activities if she is motivated or has a clear reward. The main struggle is to maintain the behaviours she learns at the centre and also when she's home or in any other place.

The therapists believe Daniela has made considerable progress since she joined. To make sure she continues the path of having an independent life, one of the  therapists will go at her home and work together with her parents and herself on a new schedule and set of rules. Daniela's family is motivated to work through this and they are hoping to see progress in the near future.
