George's Story:
George's family found out that their son has autism when he was just 2 years old. Until that age he was well developed in gestures and verbal communication and had good balance, but an unfortunate event in which their house burned came as a huge shock to him and left a mark on his development, becoming pretty soon much slower and impacting his verbal skills. In the family, the mother is the one who takes care of Goerge and his twin brother. Their father is invalid and retired from work early in his life. His parents are very involved, asking Ioana for help on some situations, to motivate George to become more social.
At the age of 13, after graduating Scoala Speciala Brasov, George joined Copiii de Cristal where he started occupational and kinesis therapy with Ioana. He is very smart, detail oriented and can reproduce very easily actions/tasks that he sees around him. Whenever Ioana is trying to involve the others in activities he jumps in and tries to take over it, to be competitive. Since he joined Copiii de Cristal his art and craft skills developed a lot, he enjoys it a lot and become good at it.George is non-verbal and through ABA therapy he learned to use a tablet to communicate. His mimic and gestures however are easy to understand, which makes the communication with him somewhat easier.
Although his condition is improving, for George it will certainly be very difficult to take care of himself, to live autonomously. Besides, his perfectionism, attention to details and non-verbal condition will make it even harder for him to integrate in society.
In the following emotional video his mother, Mrs Oprea, tells us more about what is to be a parent in such situation!
